Correct Fitting Of A Crank Noseband With Flash Strap
Positioning:
The crank noseband should sit approximately two fingers width below the Cheekbone. It should be positioned high enough to avoid restricting the nostrils and low enough to avoid the sensitive area under the cheekbone.
Tightness
Two fingers should easily slide under the noseband, with a bit of wiggle room. Over-tightening can cause discomfort and restrict breathing and jaw movement, leading to evasions.
Flash Attachment:
It should be fitted snugly but not tightly. It should sit above the soft part of the nose to avoid restricting breathing. The buckle should be positioned on the side, not directly under the nose or chin.
A crank noseband is designed to be adjustable, not to force the horse's mouth shut. It should be used to enhance the bridle's fit, not as a tool for control.
